Canna 'Firebird'

Sold Out for 2008

Canna 'Firebird'Fiery crimson-red flowers with a few yellow streaks at the center atop green foliage. Dwarf canna, 3 ft. tall. Firebird is a great choice for pots, planters, and flower beds.

Heirloom canna: Storrs and Harrison Co of Painesville, Ohio, 1916.

Bloom time: July-September; zone 10 - nearly year round.

Bulb size: 3-5 eye rhizomes.

Plant Your Rhizomes:

Select a sunny location. Prepare the soil with deep digging and plenty of organic matter. Plant when danger of freezing has past. Rhizomes should lay horizontally. Plant 2-3 inches deep and 18-24 inches apart. Soil should be damp, but not wet until growth appears. Be patient. You may also grow your cannas in large pots.

Canna Care:

Full sun. Increase water as growth appears. Mulch well with organic matter. Cannas are heavy feeders. I like to use a time release fertilizer.
